Of Mice and Men by Jhon Stienbeck is an amazing novel reflacting harsh realities of this world.
This novel is set in the era when Black Americans were treated as slaves by White Americans. This story reflacts a combined theme of racism n dreams۔

Of Mice and Men is the deeply moving story of an unusual friendship between Lennie and George. Lennie is an affectionate giant with the mind of a child. George has travelled with him for many months as they move around to find work. George grows close to Lennie, despite the troubles Lennie's innocence and strength bring on them both. George becomes Lennie's defender - protecting him from others and from himself. George shares with Lennie a dream of one day settling down and farming their own land.

Lennie loves animalsand desperately wants to be able to look after a pet of his own but his innocence and love of beautiful things in nature can only lead to tragedy for himself and his friend.

Can the great American dream come true for this hopeful couple?

In American literature Steinbeck is most famous for his depiction of a life of an ordinary American during the great depression. His Pulitzer price winning novel Grapes of Wrath is about the trials and tribulation of an immigrant family from Oklahoma, who worked as sharecroppers, in California during 1930s. He was born in Salinas, California and lived in Monterey Bay Area all his life.

I also like his non-fictional work, especially Newspaper articles he wrote, compiled in a title Harvest Gypsies, while researching for Grapes of Wrath.

Another good novel, my favorite, by Steinbeck is Cannery Row.

I am not sure where you can find his work on the internet. I believe all of his work is protected by copyright act. But I am sure anyone can purchase real cheap copies at any internet used-book seller.
